31 Days of Organizing Tips: Day 1 (Making a List)

Spread the love

Welcome to Day One of the 31 Days of Organizing Tips series!  I’m so glad you’ve joined me.  Throughout this series I’ll be sharing organizing tips that will help you on your journey from overwhelmed to organized.

Let’s get this party started!  Today’s tip is about planning your organizing projects.  If you have a lot of areas in your house that need to be organized, start by making a list of all of them.  Many of my clients contact me because they have a lot of projects they want to do, but they are overwhelmed trying to figure out where to start.  The purpose of this list is not to overwhelm you further!  The goal is to help you decide which projects are the most important and which ones can wait.  That way you can get started with organizing the spaces that are most necessary, which will eliminate some of the overwhelming feelings.  And as you start getting more organized in some areas of your life it will motivate you and energize you to take on some of the others on your list.

Jen at I Heart Organizing has a great printable for you to help with this.  Jen’s blog was the first organizing blog I started reading and she inspired me to start organizing.  So I thought it was appropriate to start off this series with one of her tips!

Our family home projects check list.

In this post, Jen shares how she uses her list(s) to help her get organized (please pin from the original source).  I can’t believe someone with as organized a house as hers needs a list like this, but it just goes to show you that organizing is an ongoing process, even in the most organized of homes!  Our needs are constantly changing and so our organizing systems must change too.  Thanks Jen for sharing this list and for inspiring me to start organizing!

For Day One, print out this list (or make your own) and go through your house, listing all the organizing projects you’d like to tackle.  Then pick 1 or 2 that are the most important to start with.

Tomorrow I’ll be looking at how to analyze what works and what doesn’t work with your current system so you can create a plan for your organizing project(s).  Then, as the series progresses, I’ll be sharing tips for various organizing projects.

Have you used a list like this before?  How did it work for you?   What is the best organizing tip you’ve implemented?
