Day 31: Maintaining a Clutter Free Home {31 Days of Easy Decluttering}
Welcome back to 31 Days of Easy Decluttering! If you’ve missed any of the previous posts, there are links to them all here.
Wrapping Up The Series Today!
No new decluttering projects today 🙂 You can use today as a catch-up day if you missed any throughout the month. Or you can relax and enjoy yourself as a reward for all your hard work!
What I will share today are some tips to help you continue on your decluttering journey and to maintain the less cluttered state you’ve achieved this month. Plus, I’ll share YOUR pictures and showcase your decluttering efforts!
Tips for Living Clutter Free
Here are a few tips to help you stay on top of the clutter in your home:
1. Follow the “one-in one-out rule”. Every. Single. Time. For every new item of clothing in your closet, give one away. Every time your child receives a new toy, donate an old one. In fact, if you still need to declutter more, you can give 2 or 3 away for every one item that enters your home. It’s like losing weight (calories burned need to be greater than calories consumed!).
2. Whenever you are irritated or annoyed by something you’re doing, look around to see if there is clutter getting in your way. Take a few minutes and quickly declutter anything you don’t need, use, love or have the space to store. It will make the task you were doing easier this time and in the future!
3. Deal with incoming paperwork on a daily basis so it doesn’t pile up and clutter your surfaces
4. Have a donation bin in an easily accessible place so everyone in your family can add to it as they come across clutter
5. Before you buy something, think about where you will store it, what it will be used for, and whether you have something already that can be used instead. Preventing clutter from entering your home starts with your shopping habits 🙂
6. Don’t make excuses to hang onto clutter (and if you do make excuses, check out this post!)
7. Purge before holidays and birthdays to create space for the gifts your family will receive
8. Schedule a regular pick-up with a donation centre or charity to keep you accountable for continuing to declutter
9. Invite people over regularly – you’ll be surprised how much you can declutter before guests visit!
10. Keep following this blog because I’ll continue sharing decluttering tips on a regular basis 🙂

Keep up the Good Work!
You’ve all done really well this month decluttering areas in your home! I hope you’re seeing and feeling the payoff and are less overwhelmed than you were at the beginning of the month.
Decluttering is never a job that you can check off your “To-Do List” and be done with it. It’s an ongoing process. Kind of like cleaning the house or doing the laundry. But if you look at it this way, you’ll be more diligent in maintaining a clutter-free home.
We didn’t cover all the areas of your home in this series, but you can apply the principles you learned this month to any space. Continue to set aside 10-15 minutes per day to declutter and over time you will conquer the clutter in your home!
