Day 6 – Boxes {31 Cheap & Easy DIY Organizers}
Think you have to spend a lot of money on costly organizing tools to get your house in order? Nope! Getting organized doesn’t have to be expensive!
Today I want to talk about boxes. You’ve probably got a bunch of these around your home and they are great for storage! You can use any kind of box. Shoe boxes, boot boxes, diaper boxes, and delivery boxes are all perfect for storage.
Boxes are about the cheapest DIY organizer you can find!
Boxes help you do one of the most important organizing principles: group like items together. This helps you know how much you have of a particular category, sets limits of how much you can have of a particular item, and makes it easy to find things and put them away. Just don’t let them become a dumping ground for random stuff!
You don’t need to do anything with boxes to use them. But sometimes it’s nice to cover them up with something to make them more decorative. I know for me it’s easier to keep something organized when it looks pretty.
So today, I’m going to share ideas for decorating boxes. All very cheap and easy DIY organizers! Even if you’re not a DIY’er.
- One way of decorating boxes is to cover them in fabric. Choose fabric that matches the decor in the space you will use them and they will inspire you to use them to stay organized! Here is ia tutorial on how to do this.

- If you’re using a box to store toys or other items in a child’s bedroom or playroom, you could decorate the box with pages from a favourite storybook! Check out this post for how to do it. You could even decorate a box with some of your kids’ artwork.

- You can also cover a box with shelf liner.

- If you want to keep things really simple, you can use gift wrap. It might not be as durable as some of the other options, so it’s probably best for boxes you don’t access on a frequent basis – but definitely cheap and easy!
Aren’t these boxes pretty? Again, you don’t have to decorate boxes to use them to help you organize. They’re are cheap and easy DIY organizers without DIY’ing anything! But wouldn’t pretty boxes make you want to stay organized if you have them in your home? You can also keep your eyes open for sales on pretty boxes, but it’s so easy to take an ordinary box and transform it into a decorative storage container.
