Decluttering for a Simpler Christmas: Entertainment
Do you feel overwhelmed at Christmas with all the extra “stuff” in your home? One of the best ways to simplify Christmas is to declutter in the weeks leading up to it.
Today I’m sharing how to declutter “entertainment” items to help you feel less overwhelmed at Christmas.
Here are some suggestions of entertainment items you can purge:
- Video games
- Video game accessories
- DVD’s
- CD’s
- Board games
- Puzzles
- Books
- Old phones/iPads/tablets/other electronics
- Basically anything that is broken, missing pieces, outdated, or no longer used
It’s a loose category so you can include whatever you want to declutter to prepare for Christmas.
Examples of electronics I’ve decluttered:
When my kids were younger, I involved them in decluttering the week or two before Christmas. In addition to the items in the list above, we always went through their videos (yep we had some of those when they were little!) and CDRoms (showing my age here, but we had a bunch of games and activities on our old desktop when my kids were little). If you still have some of either of those around, I’m guessing they aren’t used any more so you can let them go.

We also often decluttered things like craft kits and science experiments that they’d had for awhile but hadn’t opened them or that they knew they wouldn’t finish.
Besides all the kids’ entertainment items, I also decluttered some entertainment items over the years. I gave away some piano books I’d collected over the years but wasn’t using.
Also some Christmas CD’s and cassettes (before we started streaming everything we actually used these LOL!).
Not exactly entertainment, but I accumulated a lot of Christmas cards and one year I gave away a lot because I don’t send or give as many as I used to (like I said entertainment is a broad category).
It always feels good to free our home of excess entertainment items and create some breathing room for some new things.
Ready to purge some entertainment items? (Or anything else that you want to declutter to simplify your Christmas!)
